Wonders never cease. The Nats get swept by the Phillies before starting their road trip. We go into St. Louis to face the Cardinals, the team that has bedeviled us for years, and we sweep them in Busch stadium! Joe Ross, Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer all pitched very well, and the bats came alive. Once again Chris Heisey proved his worth with a homer in the 9th today, so that our lead was padded 6-0. The only bit of concern was Blake Treinen’s appearance out of the bullpen. He gave up a solo homer in the 9th and also walked a batter with 2 out, but in the end he closed it down.

I like how the bullpen is deeper than just Jonathan Papelbon, and I’m feeling good as we head into Kansas City and Chicago later this week. The Mets also lost to the Giants today, so they’re now 1.5 games behind the Nats for the NL East lead. May is starting out very well indeed.
